#27346 Totally Unusual DT Messina Quartz with Specular Hematite

Totally Unusual DT Messina Quartz with Specular Hematite
Mouse over to zoom in

This crystal is from a newly-found lot of quartz in Messina, South Africa. The famous copper mines there have been closed down for some time and all of the original quartz mined was becoming rare. New finds opened up, only to have closed within a year but the quartz from them is nothing short of amazing! This wonderfully misty DT is 1 lb 0.5 oz and 5.1” by 2.3” by 1.85” and has a “typical” side and a heavily druse side. The upper termination is a multi while the lower is more typical. The typical side shows Lemurian lines with bits of calcite and included deep red blotches of hematite while the drused side is heavily littered with frosty little quartz crystals and an inset of specular hematite. The faces show subtle glyphs and in spite of the sort of rugged looks, this crystal is in excellent condition.
