Red amphibole quartz is from Serra do Cabral Mountains in Brazil and even newer is this amazing water-tumbled and etched one, preserving the form and yet “mellowing” the edges. Unlike the lovely pastel or sunrise-sunset-toned amphiboles, these are definite shades of red, sometimes accented with greens, blues and golds and this one is a stunning red and gold, but muted as a result of the etching action of the water! Amphibole minerals have no crystalline form and meander through the crystal like scarves in the wind. This lovely quartz has those scarf-like wisps of intense red that shift to gold and then back again, and all framed in a matte finish crystal that shimmers from tiny terminations as you turn it in the light … this is a special kind of dissolution quartz! It is totally fascinating how the crystalline expression is … unique, unabashed and positively stunning! The crystal is 5.1 oz and 3.1” by 1.5” by 1.25” and in excellent condition.
