This is a gorgeous Indonesian polished slab of fossilized coral, 1.7 oz and 1.95” by 2.25” by 0.4” and it comes with a neat little display stand. She is in shades of rich gold, cream and toast and the circles are the cross-sections of the well-distant past live coral and are obvious on both sides. Either side can be displayed and the edges feature a toast-colored “rind”. The composition is silicon dioxide … agate. Fossilized coral is actually an agate (or chalcedony replacement of the coral) and can be 20 million years old or older … so no modern corals were harmed in the making of this slab. The process is similar to the formation of petrified wood with chalcedony replacing the ancient tree organics. This is a lovely piece!
