This is a matched pair of ammonite halves, 6.9 oz (total for the pair) and each 3.35” by 2.4” by 0.7” (at the wide end). The outside of each half is polished and has a few areas of rainbow iridescence (that the photos just didn’t capture well) along with wondrous shapes that resemble a scattering of oak leaves on both halves! Inside, the ammonite chambers are hollow, yet if you check them with a 10X loupe, you’ll see an array of well-formed sparkling ochre-colored crystals of golden calcite, all arranged in a spectacular spiral befitting this ancient gem from the sea. One half actually has a hollow chamber to the outside! Note that these have been stabilized and the stabilization on one half shows a crash, but it it perfectly fine … it does not penetrate the inner shell. They are from Madagascar and are wondrous collectors items.
