Mouse over to zoom in

This is a 12.9 oz, 4.4” by 2.6” by 2.4” quartz cluster from Inner Mongolia that is most astounding! The crystals are shaped like an artichoke with some having a toast-brown lodelite face. The term, artichoke, describes the growth habit of the quartz that is similar to a lightbrary growth. The cluster base is flattish and the cluster will stand securely on it, As you examine the base, you will see that the dark color comes from included hematite but there are also flashes of color from reflections off sphalerite. Now to the end of the cluster, there is a weird “spear-like” cluster of long, narrow crystals that fan out, all decorated with specular hematite. It looks like the cluster was impaled into the main cluster. Her one side has a dusting of exceedingly fine druse, giving her a matte appearance and there is a specular hematite at her base. Overall, this is a very unique cluster with so much to explore!
