This is a pair of pocket-sized, gem grade iolite from Tanzania uncut, unpolished and in just-found condition.They total 0.8 oz in weight and are about 1.2” in size and both are somewhat oval in shape. Each is a lovely light indigo, but actually, iolite is what is known as dichroic – that literally means "two colors". When the light hits just right, the color shifts to gold in one and at another angle, bluish-purple (indigo. The other shifts to gray and then the bluish-violet! In spite of first impressions, they are gem grade and a study in colors!
