#27536 Rugged, Fiery Red Amphibole Lightning Strike Quartz

Rugged, Fiery Red Amphibole Lightning Strike Quartz
Mouse over to zoom in

Red amphibole quartz is from the Serra do Cabral Mountains in Brazil, Unlike the lovely pastel or sunrise/sunset-toned amphiboles from Pakistan, these are definite shades of red, sometimes accented with greens, blues and gold. Amphibole minerals have no crystalline form and meander through the crystal like scarves in the wind. And you can easily see this quality here particularly at the upper area and just below the termination with a deep, fiery-red streaks accented by a streak of gold. The crystal is rather cone-shaped with rugged looking, but healed areas (and a key) on three sides. Remaining sides are normal. Now, as to the lightning strike, it streaks across a terminal face and escapes at the terminational apex, blowing out bits of the crystal. These were held aside by the miners just for my supplier to see during a trip to Brazil about a decade ago. The quartz is 5.8 oz and is 3.8” by 1.9” by 1.45” and is in excellent condition in spite of the rather rugged appearance and lightning strike blow out area.
